USM Dentistry Interview

I believe that when you found my blog is the time you get this invitation slip to Kelantan, congratulation! You are one step closer to your dream! ;)

Here I'm going to share my experience again, hope that it will help..:)

The are two section for this interview: 

1. Wire bending test (which for my batch, is not one of the assessment, they are doing survey to see whether the candidate can do well or not. ) 

2. Interview by three interviewers (about 20 mins)

As for me, the section 1 wire bending is not a tough task, this is because i had watch the wire bending video on youtube before i go to the interview. This is a task that needs high degree of dexterity and creativity. It not an easy task because the wire is quite hard and you need know the knack of it. Of course they will show you the video of demonstration but i don't think you will understand during the interview because you are too nervous. xP So, for this section you need to be prepared. And be careful many candidate get hurt during this section because the wire doesn't as obedient as you think...

Section 2, which is the core of the interview. Actually is just like having a casual conversation with the interviewer. LOL But this casual conversation must bring out your abilities, your experiences, and most importantly your confident.

Knock the door and walk in politely by greeting the interviewers...

Show your certificates and all the stuff you bring , and here comes the terrifying questions...hah

Question 1:Tell me about yourself in Bahasa Malaysia

This is a good chance to tell them what had u done during your secondary school years and matriculation year or STPM.

Other than the activities you had done in your school you may share about your experience outside the school. like the charity work or your working experience in the clinic.

They asked me about my family too but i don't think is related to the dentistry. lol

Question 2: Why you choose dentistry. And some question related to dentistry.

Well, please be honest rather than you trying to make up a story that makes you want to choose dentistry.

Tell them the reasons you want to choose dentistry, what makes you think that this job is suitable for you. Please do not say you don't want on-call !!! Because if you think dentistry doesn't need to be on-call then you are wrong. Please do some research about the dentistry. What kind of courses that you need to learn.(eg. anatomy, neurology and etc.) Further study after Bachelor of Dental Surgery(Specialist). How long you need to service in the government hospital(3 years min). How long is the working hour for a dentist. Because you are going to interview in USM, so do some reserach about HUSM. What kind of services they are providing (mobile dental service is quite interesting ) And most importantly, what you need to do during your five years as a dentistry student.(i only know that after 3rd year is clinical year)

Question 3: Who else encourage you to choose dentistry.

Of course is your family.haha

Question 4: This is a problem solving task, i believe is to test how mature are you and to know your personality 

so, my question is: Your neighbour is sick and old. His wife died few years ago and his children working at oversea. So now your mother is taking the responsibility to take care of him and cook for him everday. Please find a better solution for this situation.( they requested me answer Bahasa Malaysia)

I was talking craps so i don't think i want to share my answer..haha 

Think yourself, i know your are wise enough. 

so this is my experience in usm interview. I didn't take too much of photos because i was so busy talking to everyone.. lol

Occupy yourself during the waiting time, talk to someone and get to know them, it was very interesting actually instead you sitting at the corner and stress about the incoming interview... Is not hard actually, because everyone will be very friendly..;) 

For my interview, most of my questions they ask me about dentistry. However, some of my friends interview by the Deans, he only asked about personal things. Like hobbies, what had you joined for you co-curriculum.

Ohya! Do some research about the Deans of dental school, if can try to recognize their face too, it may help.
